Adhese® Universal Solves this Age Old ‘Dentin’ Dilemma
When using the Total Etch (etch and rinse) adhesives technique, it’s critical that the dentin is dried to the appropriate degree before the bonding agent is applied. Highly moist dentin will affect the quality of the bond because it’s difficult to bond anything to a wet surface. When air drying the dentin before applying the adhesive, it is important not to over dry (desiccate) the dentin because this would collapse the collagen network and prevent the adhesive from infiltrating the dentinal tubules. Not infiltrating the dentinal tubules reduces the bond strength and introduces the possibility of post-operative sensitivity. Not properly sealing the dentin tubules causes pressure or ionic changes in the fluid flow that exists in the dentin tubules, which stimulates post-operative sensitivity.
