This case shows the method of internationally acclaimed dentist Andrea Shepperson while restoring teeth with IPS Empress Direct, and shows the truly exceptional results she was able to achieve with this material.
Dr. Andrea Shepperson:
The patient presented with a composite repair to her natural tooth, which was placed to mask an area of discoloration on tooth 21. The old restoration was shorter than the adjacent tooth and the incisal edge discrepancy dominating her smile was very obvious. A diagnostic wax-up was constructed and used to fabricate a silicone key to define the incisal edge anatomy. The underlying discoloration was masked with an IPS Empress Direct Dentin shade, chosen for its value and compatibility with tooth11. An en Enamel shade was selected for the body of the tooth and blended short of the facial finish line. A brighter Enamel shade was used to highlight ridges and the incisal edge. Trans 30 completed the facial build-up to obtain an invisible margin. Polishing and contouring was done with Astropol® polishers.
